The bridge story
he Bushuissluis (Bus House Lock) runs over the Kloveniersburgwal and in this way connects the Oude Hoogstraat with the Nieuwe Hoogstraat. That's spot on, or as the Dutch say “dat klopt als een bus” this bridge is centuries old. It is the northernmost bridge over the Kloveniersburgwal before it dives under the Nieuwmarkt.
Pieter Bast already included a drawbridge in his map from 1599. The Bus House Lock has since been modified, widened and raised several times. A standard iron beam bridge came into existence, which lasted almost a century. With a large-scale approach to the Oude and Nieuwe Hoogstraat in the 1980s, the bridge was also renewed. This bridge has now not changed since 1985.
